Mirador en el Cerro Barón en Valparaíso.

En este croquis se ha trazado lo que abarca la mirada en varios sentidos en el mismo blanco del papel, quedando contiguos espacios que están en distintas direcciones.

Los que permanecen en este lugar, se detienen distendidos en un espacio que presenta opciones equivalentes a la mirada, la que no está urgida por nada.

El mirador retiene en varias direcciones simultáneas, mas bien retiene al unísono ya que a este lugar llegan al mismo tiempo muchos sonidos de la actividad de la ciudad; sonidos y visión que al llegar al mismo tiempo muestran lo múltiple de ella. Ahora este hecho, su multiplicidad se hace presente justamente cuando cada cual no se encuentra en el fragor de la vida ciudadana, sino cuando se hace un alto o se retira o distancia por un momento.

Esta construcción que reúne la lejanía con la proximidad se realiza en lo cercano, lo distante como distante no es de suyo modificable. La construcción del mirador se da en dos pasos, la ubicación, un punto privilegiado al borde del acantilado y luego la extensión propiamente construida el espacio abarcable de la proximidad, una calzada con asientos y una reja que protege y permite ver.

Pero hay más, la reja que soporta un pasamanos, está construida con una dedicación mayor a su eficiencia como defensa. Es un cuerpo en fierro forjado que en su facturación ha tenido una demora notable es un dibujo concebido como tal y luego logrado con una maestría sobre la materia, indicando un aprecio por este vacío disponible.

Este es un lugar donde el habitar le dedica un espacio y tiempo a sí mismo, este sí mismo es lo que constituye a la ciudad, donde el habitar se dice a sí mismo que ahí reside. Es un acto que se cumple sin un posterior resultado, reuniendo la plenitud del horizonte y su perfección con el apoyo de la mano en la baranda que permite tal vista.

Mirador, reunion of the horizon and the foreground where the city itself is present

A mirador on the Cerro Barón in Valparaíso.

In this sketch what encompasses the gaze in various ways has been outlined in the very whiteness of the paper, leaving adjacent spaces that stand in distinct directions.

Those who remain in this place linger in a relaxed state in a space that presents equivalent options to the gaze, which is not fixed by any one thing.

The mirador detains in various simultaneous directions, or rather this detaining is in unison, such that at this place many sounds of the activity of the city arrive at the same time, sounds and vision that in arriving at the same time demonstrate its multiplicity.  Now this fact, its multiplicity, is made present precisely when people are not meeting in the roar of city life but when they ascend or retire or become distanced for a moment.

This construction that reunites distance with proximity is realized in the foreground, the distant as distant is not in itself modifiable. The construction of the mirador is given in two steps, the location, a privileged point at the edge of the cliff and then extent properly constructed, the embraceable space of proximity, a pavement with seats and a railing that protects and allows seeing.

But there is more, the bars that support a handrail are constructed with a greater dedication to their protective efficiency. They form a body in wrought iron that in its manufacture has suffered a notable delay, it is a drawing which has been conceived as such and then achieved with a mastery over the material, indicating an appreciation for the available space.

This is a place where inhabitation dedicates a space and time to itself, this itself is what constitutes the city, where inhabitation says to itself  that it resides here. It is an act fulfilled without any further consequence, reuniting the plenitude of the horizon and its perfection with the support of the hand on the rail that permits such a view.
