En la periferia de Valparaíso, una casa de lo escaso, un interior mínimo.

Esta construcción que está en el límite de su posibilidad de ser, debido a la pobreza, muestra un artificio espacial para constituir un lugar.

No está en el espacio rural donde las atenuaciones del agro con su amplitud y los cultivos hacen que una construcción mínima participe de lo vasto. Esta es la periferia de la ciudad, sin cultivos, que reclama el ser un espacio urbano, donde la extensión es un bien escaso.

De este modo los que tienen poco dan forma a su lugar con esa ley, con lo mínimo. Una frágil trama de varillas delimita su recinto. Consiguiendo con esto que su uso se restrinja a los habitantes de la casa, lo vuelve un interior al aire libre. Con este gesto constructivo se hace un lugar disponible para los propios y a la vez público en cuanto a que está a la vista de todos.

Es una facturación donde lo construido es vertical, está expuesto, y testimonia la presencia de quienes lo habitan.

Con un gesto espacial que tiende a las verdaderas magnitudes: un interior mínimo con un exterior holgado.

Así esta construcción leve, de un recinto propio a la vista de todos es una partida en el residir urbano.

Light verticality: a spatial intuition concerning dwelling

On the outskirts of Valparaíso, a shanty, a minimal interior.

This construction that owing to poverty is at the limit of its possibility of existence  demonstrates spatial artifice in constituting a place.

It is not in rural space where the attenuations of agriculture – with their breadth and their crops – allow a minimal construction to participate in vastness. This is the periphery of the city, without crops, which claims to be an urban space, where extent is at a premium.

In this way, those who have very little give form to their own place with the law that they use the minimum. A fragile fence of stakes constitutes their enclosure. Consequent on the fact that its use is restricted to the inhabitants of the house, it becomes an open-air interior. With this constructive gesture they make an adaptable place for themselves which is public at the same time, in so far as it is seen by everyone.

It is making where what is constructed is vertical, exposed and witnesses the presence of those who live there.

With a spatial gesture that tends to the true magnitudes: a minimal interior with a spacious exterior.

Thus this light construction of its own enclosure open to everyone’s view is a game in urban residence.
