En un restaurant de la ciudad, en el cual se puede comer un número de platos corrientes a elección.

Uno de sus costados da a la calle a dónde a través de las ventanas se ve a los transeúntes pasar. Se ve medio cuerpo de los que están mas cerca, y los más lejanos de cuerpo entero.

Es un interior corriente es decir se lo ha arreglado con lo que hoy se llama decoración, que viene a completar la habitabilidad de un recinto. Por el momento no nos pronunciaremos acerca de ella sino que constatamos el hecho como algo habitual.

Pero dentro de lo habitual nos ha detenido un hecho, la presencia de una barra de bronce pulida, brillante, sobre un antepecho que limita el interior del exterior. Que no está mal ubicada pero que nos lleva a preguntarnos por su presencia ahí, porque es notoria, obedece a una voluntad.

Estamos ante un hecho que canta un aspecto de la habitabilidad, los espacios habitables requieren de orden limpieza y aseo. Ésta es una labor, es decir, no es un trabajo como una obra, que se erige y queda finiquitada, sino que es una actividad que una vez cumplida hay que volver a realizarla al día siguiente nuevamente. Ahora la labor parece no tener expresión de sí misma, puede ser analizada o medida, pero no se manifiesta directamente. Ahora el brillo del bronce podría pensarse que se trata de algo lujoso, ¿Pero qué parte de lo lujoso se quiere traer aquí? Porque el recinto es uno corriente. Estamos aquí ante un hecho espacial que es presentar y representar.

El brillo presenta con sus reflejos en la luz el aseo y el orden que han sido bien hechos, un metal bien pulido da cuenta del menor error.  Pero este hecho espacial que se deja ver como una evidencia, al mismo tiempo tiene la potencia de  representar la labor que lo sustenta en lo efímero, lo magnífico de su ser brillante tiene una  duración mínima, por esto representa a la labor que lo sustenta.

Así vivimos en interiores que manifiestan lo que los constituye como tales, en una densidad de habitación que presenta el espacio listo para ser habitado y a la vez representa aquello que lo sustenta en su estado presente. ¿Acaso el lujo bien entendido, es representación?

Shininess, power that presents and represents.

In a restaurant in the city in which one can eat a number of standard dishes.

One of its sides looks onto the street where passers-by are seen through the windows, just part of those nearby and the entire bodies of those further away.  It is a contemporary interior, that is to say one fitted-out, one whose décor is given attention to ensure its habitability. For the moment we will not pronounce on this, but we state the fact as something typical.

Yet in what is typical a fact has captured our attention, the presence of a bar of shining polished bronze (brass?) above a ledge that frames the interior from the exterior. It may not be badly located but that leads us to ask ourselves why its presence is noticeable, why it obeys a will (why it is de-signed).

We stand before a fact that sings of an aspect of habitability, habitable spaces require cleanness and neatness in their order. It speaks of labour, that is to say, it is not a work like a project that is erected and seeks completion, but an activity that once fulfilled must be carried out anew on a daily basis. Now such labour seems to have no expression in itself, it can be analysed or measured, but it is not manifested directly.  Now it might be thought that the shining of the bronze (brass?) is to do with luxury. But what aspect of luxury is being sought here?  It is because the enclosure is contemporary. We stand here before a special fact that is presentation and representation.

With its reflections of light shininess presents cleanness and order that has been well made, a well-polished metal displays the least flaw. But this spatial fact that is revealed as evidence, has at the same time the power to represent the work that sustains it as something ephemeral, the magnificence of its being bright having a minimal duration, for this represents the work that sustains it.

Thus we live in interiors that manifest what constitutes them as such, in a density of habitation that presents the space as ready to be inhabited and at the same time represents what sustains it in its present state. Perhaps luxury, well understood is representation?
