Cielo Americano.

Vamos por el continente, padeciendo su extensión, desplazándonos en un medio mecánico, ni tan velozmente como en un avión desvinculados del suelo, ni palmo a palmo en una marcha a pie. En el avión apenas se percibe el suelo, se navega en un medio. En una caminata se va sumido en el esfuerzo, donde la contemplación implica detener la marcha.

En el bus se puede percibir la extensión sin detenerse, se avanza en continuidad de un modo templado, con una mirada que puede retener lo que ve, lo próximo y lo distante se mantienen vinculados.

Así podemos constatar que la gran extensión del continente, su manto horizontal, deja percibir su tamaño a través de la atmósfera que pone delante de la mirada esta enorme nube. Lo que no se deja ver de la tierra aparece en este volumen aéreo.

Salimos a recorrer América desde Valparaíso sin esta atmósfera vertical, para que la tierra se muestre y nos muestre como es posible ver, hasta los grandes tamaños se entregan con un distanciamiento que es templado.

Podemos decir que lo templado es erguido, ni sumidos en una nave, ni en la fatiga, con una mirada abierta donde lo que  no es habitual se hace presente para construir la gratitud a la tierra.

The grandeur of the continent is made present in the ephemerality of the atmosphere.

American sky.

We go through the continent, enduring its extent, moving via mechanical means, neither so rapidly as in an aeroplane liberated from the ground, nor so slowly as in a walk on foot. In an aeroplane the ground is scarcely seen, a milieu is navigated.  In a walk one is immersed in the effort, and contemplation involves slowing one’s progress.

In a bus the extent of the landscape can be perceived without stopping, one advances with tempered continuity. The gaze can retain what is seen, the near and the distant remain linked.

Thus we can confirm that the great extent of the continent, its horizontal mantle, reveals its size through the atmosphere that presents this enormous cloud to the gaze. What is not revealed on the earth appears via this aerial volume.

We leave from Valparaiso to explore America without the verticality to the atmosphere  that allows the earth to display itself and show us how it is possible to see, great sizes being delivered with temperate detachment.

Neither being submerged in a ship nor in fatigue, we can say that the temperate is erected with an open looking, for which the unusual makes itself present in order to build gratitude to the earth.
