Desde los cerros estamos en la altura, abajo la ciudad de Viña del Mar.

Estamos ante una figura de la ciudad contra el mar. En lo visible de esta parte de la ciudad  no podríamos sostener con certeza que lo que vemos es fruto de una voluntad, que alguien se hubiera empeñado en lograr esa separación entre edificios y menos esa silueta.

Estamos frente a un sector de mayor densidad de la ciudad, en la orilla con solo edificación en altura. Esta edificación es la de mayor presencia desde  lejos.

Cavilando mientras dibujamos los edificios:

Si estas torres fueran todas iguales se nos presentaría como pereza en su diseño, la igualdad como mera repetición.

Si ellas fueran todas distintas con una ley de variación reconocible, serían un conjunto.

Lo que vemos son todas distintas, y no son un conjunto. Son un ejercicio de la independencia o autonomía. Es la autonomía que rige bajo el régimen de la contigüidad. Autonomía y contigüidad se presenta hoy como un bien, ya que es poner en ejercicio las posibilidades.

Que el cuerpo de los edificios sea una trama de ventanas o un muro con perforaciones es distinguir demasiado a esta distancia. Es abandonar la lejanía y volver a la proximidad.

La forma de la totalidad está  entregada aquí a la intrínseca belleza de la lejanía, no es algo que nos concierna y nos mueva a construirla.

Pero el continente que nos da suelo requiere de una forma de totalidad para tener destino. Debemos desvelar la extensión americana para alcanzar una forma de totalidad.  Por eso mañana partimos a recorrer América.

Total will and beauty

Here we are high in the hills, below is the city of Viña del Mar.

We are before a figure of the city seen against the sea. We could not argue with certainty that what we see, what is visible in this part of the city, is a deliberate result i.e. that someone has attempted to attain that particular separation between buildings and in accordance with that silhouette.

We are facing a sector of greater density in the city, on the shore and with high building only.  This kind of building is one with greater presence from afar.

Pondering while we draw the buildings:

If these towers were all equal they would present us with laziness in design, equality as mere repetition.

If they were all distinct with a law of recognizable variation, they would be an ensemble.

The towers we see are all distinct, and they are not an ensemble. They are an exercise of indepedence or autonomy. It is autonomy governed by the rule of contiguity. Autonomy allied with contiguity is presented today as a positive achievement (a good thing), as it puts into effect whatever the possibilities are.

That the body of the buildings is a network of windows or a wall with perforations, but this is too much distinguish at this distance. It is to abandon remoteness and turn to proximity.

Here the form of totality is given to the intrinsic beauty of distance, instead of something that concerns and moves us to build it.

The continent that grounds us requires a form of totality to achieve its destiny. We should unveil the expanse of America to reach a form of totality. For this we leave tomorrow to explore America.
