La venta de verduras se hace en la vereda, a la luz del día, es lo que se ve. La verdura y la venta de feria, son productos singulares, cada fruto es singular. Sin mas garantía que lo que se tiene delante, la feria es solo presente.

El feriante ocupa una extensión equivalente a un automóvil, y con ese mismo carácter, móvil. Luego de unas horas la instalación desaparece hasta el día siguiente, con sus mesas con las verduras y balanza. La actividad se sustenta en lo estable de la ciudad, llega todos los días al mismo punto, en uno de sus centros densos y a su vez la ciudad recibe lo que es cambiante, frágil y necesario que es su abastecimiento.

Todo esto podría darse solo de un modo instituido formalmente con el comercio establecido. Pero la ciudad alienta desde sí misma la multiplicidad. Por eso cuida la presencia de este comercio informal que es la feria, que le hace ver su presente con aquello mutable que sostiene la vida en ella. Así el presente breve y cambiante nos hace señas con la silueta de un barco al fondo de la calle, que testimonia el destino marítimo de esta ciudad.

La arquitectura que construye lo fijo de la condición humana, da cabida a lo transitorio del acto de habitar, a lo menos con dos modos con la residencia y el campamento.

The fixed and the changing in the care of multiplicity

In the Plaza Echaurren of Valparaíso.

Selling grocery on the pavement, in the light of day, is what you see.  Groceries and market goods are unique products, each fruit is unique. Without more guarantee than what happened before, the market is only of the present.

The stallholder occupies a space equivalent to a car, and with the same character of mobility. A place of a few hours, the installation disappears towards the end of the day, with its tables, groceries and scales.

The activity is sustained in the stable of the city. It arrives every day at the same point, in one of its dense centres, and in its turn the city receives what is changing, fragile and necessary by way of its provision.

All this could be instituted only in formally established trade. But the city breathes from the multiplicity itself. So take care of the presence of this informal trade that is the market, that makes its presence felt with that mutability that sustains life within it. Thus the brief and changing present makes signs for us with the silhouette of a ship at the end of the street, that witnesses the maritime destiny of this city.

Architecture that constructs the fixed of the human condition, accommodates the transitory act of inhabitation, in at least two modes, the residential and the encampment.
