Valparaíso, en la Caleta Portales, sobre la arena junto a los botes se realiza la venta y limpieza de los pescados. Una mesa forrada con una malla para que no se resbalen los pescados. Los faenadores cubren sus cuerpos con delantales de hule, botas de agua, guantes de acero, hay recipientes con pescados y recipientes con agua. Así esta actividad al aire libre cobra su forma en una mesa junto a los botes.

El bote es una forma a preservar, se percibe en cada tabla que lo compone. Esta mesa no es un objeto tan cuidado, podría no durar, no se ha considerado su permanencia, diremos que está hecha con lo que había, tiene poco valor, no es como el bote que a pesar de estar ahí dejado sobre la arena vale mucho.

Sin embargo esta mesa casi sin valor tiene una virtud medida y presente: su superficie horizontal, disponible a una distancia del suelo que permite trabajar erguido. El valor de esta mesa es la ocasión, esas dimensiones, esa superficie disponible cuando llega el pescado desde el mar.

The value of opportunity

Valparaíso, in the Caleta Portales, on the sand next to the boats the selling and cleaning of fish takes place. A table reinforced with mesh to prevent the fish slipping. The slaughterers cover their bodies with rubber aprons, waterproof boots, gloves of leather, there are fish containers and water containers. Thus this  open air activity  takes its form from a table next to boats.

The boat is a form to preserve, it is seen in each piece that composes it. This table is not an object so cared for, it may not endure, its permanence had not been considered , we say it is made with what there was, it has little value, it is not like the boat that despite being left here on the sand is very valuable.

However this table almost without value has a measured and present virtue:  its horizontal surface, adaptable, at a distance from the ground that allows working while standing up.  The value of this table is the opportunity, these dimensions, this adaptable surface when the fish arrives from the sea.
